Connie Crothers, improvising pianist, has been recognized for her originality, virtuousity and range of musical expression. Jean Quist described her: “...a lioness on the keyboard.” She has performed solo and with various groups in festivals, such as Berlin Jazztage, Jazz at Middleheim, Belgium, DuMaurier International Festival in Toronto, JVC New York Jazz Festival, New Music America Festival, Spoleto in Charleston, NC; concerts in Merkin Hall, NYC, Location One, NYC, The Stone, NYC, De Singel, Belgium, BAM, NYC, Carnegie Recital Hall, Bim House, Netherlands, Deep Listening Space, Kingston, NY; jazz club performances include the Blue Note, the Village Vanguard, Birdland, Sweet Basil. Five of her CDs have been chosen by critics for their list of the best records of the year. One of them, "Love Energy," was voted #1 record of the year in Wire.
She leads a quartet, featuring Richard Tabnik on alto saxophone, Roger Mancuso on drums, Ken Filiano on bass. The quartet, with Ratzo Harris on bass, just released a CD, “Music is a Place,” which has already received rave reviews. She has recorded duo with Max Roach, “Swish,” and performed with him in Tokyo, Bologna, New Orleans Jazz Festival, Harvard University, where, together with Mr. Roach she was honored as Visiting Jazz Artist. She has performed with Lenny Popkin, Carol Tristano, Warne Marsh, Lee Konitz, Andy Fite, Bud Tristano, Jemeel Moondoc, Henry Grimes, Eddie Gomez, Sonny Dallas, Kevin Norton, Cameron Brown, Adam Lane, John McCutcheon, Ace Yamashita, Ben Manley, Jim Staley, poet Mark Weber. She was featured on Marian McPartland’s “Piano Jazz.” She is the founder and president of New Artists Records. She teaches improvisation.
